He was guarding the garden, from what I am not entirely sure, but he has had the job a long time so he must be good at it!

Straight out of "Ghostbusters" An Assyrian Lion?

@CElliottUK: He is a little doggie at the Livadia Palace in Yalta, where the Big Three carved up Europe before the end of WW2. He is made of white Crimean granite, built about 1910-1911. So this makes him a Neo-Christian evil doggie, as he is not part of the old Neo-Byzantine church on the grounds. He likes pizza, Zinfandel Wine (something he can't get in Ukraine), peanut butter (also not in Ukraine) horror movies, The Who and Hot Dogs. He bit Stalin on the foot during the conference, and was cursed to stand in stone until the Cubs win the World Series, this of course will not happen. He dreams of the World Series between the Cubs and Yankees, so he stands guard over the garden, dreaming of the day when the Cubs beat the Yankees in the Series and lifts is curse of stone ... then he will spread his wings and soar ... Ah... so no, he is not an Assyrian Lion :-)

Looks like he could do a good job guarding with those wings. An interesting statue. Nice composition!
